Leonard’s Garden — and Yours.

Mister Nimoy tweeted this lovely, graceful post on Sunday:

I suspect he knows how greatly loved by the world he is, and I think this is his gentle way of reminding his admirers that nothing lasts forever. It may even be his ever-so-subtle way of saying Goodbye, but I don’t want to speculate too far into that 😦

As Pete Seeger  paraphrased Ecclesiastes 3:1 in ‘Turn, Turn, Turn

To everything, there is a season.  And a time to to every purpose under heaven.

Since his COPD diagnosis last year, he has kept to his privacy, but also became more insistent on urging others to quit smoking or never start.  He doesn’t want anyone to go through what he and millions of others have experienced with the disease.  It is another bloom in the garden of his amazing life.  He has achieved so much in his time so far, as an actor, director, photographer, pilot, playwright, poet, animal lover, preserver of Jewish tradition  and civic-minded citizen. Also a loving husband, father, Grandpa, and nurturing soul force of the little show that turned him into an icon.  In many ways, he is Mister Spock in his endless quest to learn and explore, and that is a lesson to us all:  Never stop exploring, learning, creating,  and discovering what you can do with your life.

Our life is short and precious.  I always say that any day that you can get out of bed is a blessed day. Don’t waste another moment on the constant distractions the world throws at us. Unplug from the web. Turn off your I-Phone. Talk to someone face to face. Hug a friend. Make something with your hands.  Plant your garden.  Just LIVE and LOVE, for all we have is RIGHT NOW.

We don’t know anything more at this time, but of course our thoughts and prayers are with Leonard, Susan, Julie, Adam, and all of his family.  We send our grateful thanks for sharing his beautiful garden of life. LLAP.

Thinking of Leonard Nimoy.

It’s astonishing how much one life can affect so many others. ❤

As I write this, the hero of my childhood, my major adolescent crush, a man I’ve never known personally but have loved for 40+ years is recovering from severe chest pains that happened last Thursday (February 19th).   Leonard Nimoy is one of the most creative, passionate, caring, and most marvelous humans of the last century, and I am so thankful for all the little areas of my life he has unknowingly touched with his charm, intelligence, and that beautiful laugh.

Mr. Nimoy is, of course, a very private man, and he deserves his privacy during this hard time.  But I truly hope that he is aware of and surrounded by all the love of his family, friends, and fans.  The fact that he is tweeting some of his poetry is his way of comforting us, and letting him know he’s still here.

The Beatles sang the words,  “…And in the End, the Love you take is equal to the love you make”.   Leonard is a true Renaissance man. He has given so much of his love and soul to the world, and I know when the time comes for him to fly from this mortal coil, his love will be returned a thousand-fold.  Let’s hope that’s still not for a while, for many hearts will break that day.  But what a blessing to know such a man, if only through his work.

Leonard wrote in his poem, You and I Have Learned, the following:

The miracle is this The more we share… The more we have.

Every year, Leonard has shared more and more of himself with his public; and he truly has more of that love back every day.

Leonard, as a tiny representative of your admirers all over the world, I must Thank You for all the beauty and joy you have given us with your life.  You have touched our hearts and souls deeply, and you are so greatly loved.  We send you all our love and strong healing thoughts.  Thank you for taking a quick moment to get your picture taken with this ol’ smitten Trekkie in 2013. Thank you for being one of the happy places in my heart.  Please get well soon! Love, Therese Bohn

My Weekly Spock: Rare TOS Publicity Photos

I’m always happy to find publicity photos for original Trek episodes.  Recently I came across a few I had never seen before!  It makes me wonder if there were publicity pictures for every episode made? (Wouldn’t that be great?)  Well, I’ll keep searching! Here’s some fun ones for now from This Side of Paradise,  Mudd’s Women, and Spectre of the Gun!  I find the Mudd’s Women’s ones especially funny!

My Weekly Spock: Camelot Cassanova

I just came across these great pics of Leonard during his time playing King Arthur in Camelot (1973).  Wish I could have seen this !  A classmate of mine back in 7th grade did see Nimoy in this show in Massachussetts — I was so jealous!  Love the alternate universe-ish goatee! (but real this time!)

My Weekly Spock – Surfin’ Spock!

Okay, so it’s not Mr. Spock surfing, but it is Leonard with his son Adam in the early 70’s catching some waves!  Wishing you warm weather — spring will come, really!

Look What I Got! Cool Meets Classic: Autographed Pic of Leonard!

What do you get when you cross an iconic TV character with A legendary American car? Only the coolest autographed photo ever!

The other week I just couldn’t resist the offer to buy this autographed photo of Leonard from his internet store LLAP.  This is classic Americana!   A grand shot of Nimoy on the Paramount parking lot posing in his Spock gear with his newly acquired 1963 Buick Riviera Gran Sport!  I bet he loved that car.   I remember a friend of our family had one, and we were in awe of how the headlights had magic shutters that opened and closed at your command!  The license plate reads PDL 257 — I think the PDL stands for “Pretty Darn Logical!”

The photo was one of 50 being offered, freshly signed by Nimoy himself with a silver marker. 🙂   I got a little fan-girly when I got it, suddenly realizing that he had held this picture (insert silly squeal).   It’s a nice little memento and a great picture.  The envelope it came in also included a little printed thank you and a bonus baseball card-sized autographed pic of the famous shot from Amok Time of Spock giving the Vulcan salute. Not sure if that autograph was applied by Nimoy or a machine (it appears to be black marker) but what a nice little bonus! Thanks Mr. Nimoy!

My Weekly Spock: 1950’s “Hi-Lites” Questionnaire

I came across this interesting little tidbit from Mr. Nimoy’s youth… This was Leonard’s responses to a questionnaire by a fan publication from the 1950’s called “Hi-Lites”, which covered ‘up and coming’ actors and actresses’. This one was from 1953-54.  He was happy to respond to Mrs. Hreha’s questions with this gracious note and even supplied a photo!

Early in his career, he’s excited about the avenues opening up to him (Dragnet!) and possibly more so about his interests (“WOMEN!)  (This was not long before his marriage to Sandi)

My Weekly Spock: He Loves to Laugh

I always love to see pictures of Leonard laughing –it’s a deep, powerful laugh, and always genuine! You can hear it now…

My Weekly Spock: Rare pics from 1972 “Oliver” (as Fagin)

I was delighted to come across these rare photos of Leonard from 1972 when he starred as Fagin in the (Milwaukee) Melody Top Theater stage production of “Oliver”.  Here he’s seen on and off stage, in rehearsal, and in some especially rare color photos, in and out of character with fellow actor Clyde Miller, who appears just a little star-struck! (Can’t blame him there!) I wish I could have seen this (or any of Nimoy’s stage works), looks like a blast.
