My Weekly Spock: Leonard Sings on ‘Hollywood Palace” 1968! (GALLERY)

I’d like to thank whoever posted these images of Leonard online earlier this year! Leonard appeared on the variety show “The Hollywood Palace” on October 12 1968, and he is totally in the groove here, baby! Nehru Jacket, check. Silk neckerchief, check. Singing a long-lost song, check. Times have changed — not only are modern variety shows mostly reality competitions, but I think you’d be hard pressed to find current dramatic actors singing pop ballads before a live audience. But this was a big thing in the ’60s, even if the singers weren’t exactly Frank Sinatra!

You can hear Leonard singing it here. (you’ve been warned). But there’s just something about 30-something Nimoy attempting to bridge the Generation Gap makes me wince just a little! It’s like someone of my generation (b.1961) trying to sing hip-hop! Well, at least he looks cute here.

According to tv.com, Leonard also appeared with the “Bottoms Up Revue” in a sci-fi spoof titled “Star Odyssey 2001 7/8” If any of these videos or other images of this shows up, let me know!
