James Horner – Master Composer – 1953-2015

james-horner_vert-1f1ea932844a5195c9646df8875061b3850596d3-s400-c85So very sad to report the tragic passing of Master Composer James Horner, who was killed in a single engine plane crash in California.

Known for many iconic scores of Hollywood films, Trek fans remember and admire his seafaring, strong and touching score for Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan, and its follow up themes in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock.

 https://youtu.be/KWf4M-F5SvQ

The theme for Kirk and Spock is particularly poignant, (especially when Spock dies) and now sounds all the more sad knowing that we’ll never have another score by Mr. Horner.

James explains the score of Star Trek II, The Wrath of Khan here, and the themes of Khan, the Enterprise, and the bond between Kirk and Spock:

Mr. Horner also composed soaring themes for so many memorable movies, among them  Titanic, Avatar, Field of Dreams, Apollo 13, A Beautiful Mind, Braveheart, Glory, and countless others.

The movies have lost a great maestro.  I add my deepest sympathy to his family and friends.  May the magnificence of his music bring you comfort at this sad time.  I invite you take a little time today and listen to the work and empathy that are so magical here. Here are several of his memorable soundtracks:

Kaliedescope of  Mathmatics from A Beautiful Mind totally sounds like my  butterfly brain:   https://youtu.be/mZI3VWSu0nM

The beautiful theme to Cocoon                                                                  https://youtu.be/AmpLx6UcynY

The soaring theme to Glory (hearing this now makes me very sad)

Rest in Peace, Mr. Horner.   Your music belongs to the ages.

My Weekly Spock: Happily Ever After-ing in Camelot

I found this great still from the 1973 stage version of Camelot.  I bet it was lovely (if heartbreaking for King Arthur)

Celeste Update: Cautiously Optimistic, One Step Closer to Remission!

Celeste posted a very promising update on her Facebook wall yesterday!  (June 18 — Forgive me for not posting sooner, as I’ve just read it)  Here’s the good news in her words, and Celeste, Good Luck with your scans and ultrasound on Monday!  Our love, prayers, and best wishes are with you for more success and that you will soon beat this cancer for good!

YAY!!! We just heard the results of my last blood work and everything was completely normal including my cancer markers which come from a test called the CA125.

The genetic testing results are still pending and I get the CAT Scan the Pet Scan and an ultrasound done on Monday. I can’t eat any sugar or starch 24 hours the day before because sugar lights up like a Christmas tree on these tests which is certainly a good indication as to why we want to keep sugar and starch to the best of our ability out of our diets if we have cancer and or want to prevent getting it and other chronic diseases. And then I will be fasting after midnight on Sunday which is the night before and the whole morning for these tests. I can have sips of water, however…I will certainly be hungry and will take a couple of my Orgain protein shakes to have as soon as I am done and then be really ready for LUNCH!!!!

Please keep good positive thoughts for me for these tests as I really like the idea of being officially in remission and if these tests come out good I can relax a little…and truly own the word REMISSION!!!

After the tests I have an appointment with another doctor who will be part of the hernia repair surgery team. So far it looks like it will be ok to schedule it for mid-August which is great because I can heal and get strong and also ATTEND THE STAR TREK CONVENTION IN VEGAS – LIVE LONG AND PROSPER EVERYONE!

This photo was taken last year at the Star Trek convention in Vegas by their wonderful professional photographer who did our photo ops! I hope to see many of you there so we can do a photo booth picture together.

I remain cautiously optimistic.

And Friends, Please Don’t Forget to help Celeste reach the goal of her cancer fund, which is currently at $25,500!  (only $24,500 to go!)

Some Photos for Adam Nimoy. <3

Hey Kids,

Many of you have seen these here before, but I’m posting these again in full size especially for Adam Nimoy if he wants to use any of them in his documentary.  I’m sending him an e-mail and I don’t want to crowd and crash his server!      (Don’t forget to contribute!)

These are my photos from June 15, 2013 when I saw Leonard Nimoy at Symphony Space in NYC after a performance of Vincent.   A magical day!

Good Luck Adam! Enjoy! -Therese Bohn  😀 ❤

Wideo Wednesday – ‘A Tribute to Spock’ by Anthony Lara

This is a marvelous video of a ‘speed painting’ by artist Anthony Lara.   Not only is it a splendid portrait of Leonard Nimoy as Spock, but a great tutorial on how to paint with Photoshop!* Just a beautiful job, with photo realness, and shadowing. (and those eyes!)  Wonderful talent,  and the music makes it all the more touching.  Congratulations Anthony, I’m sure Mr. Nimoy would have loved this.  🙂

* I have Photoshop but have never attempted anything this detailed — thanks for the inspiration!

#71 — Whom Gods Destroy

Coming down the wire on the last 9 TOS movie-style posters! Hard to believe! I’ll miss this series when I’m done, but where TOS is concerned, I’m sure I’ll always come up with something else!

Here’s Whom Gods Destroy, yet another  Captain-gone-mad episode and a semi-rehash of Dagger of the MindBut Steve Inhat as Garth was deliciously loony, and Yvonne DeCarlo’s a lovely limber dancer!

Two Years Ago Today (June 15, 2013)

It was two years ago today, June 15, 2013, that I saw Leonard Nimoy in New York City, and on his way out of the Symphony Space Theater, he let me get his picture taken with him. (You can read the whole story here). Knowing now what we didn’t know then (about his COPD) it was especially nice of him to oblige me, for I’m sure he was tired.  I’ll never forget seeing him that day, and so thankful I did.  Bless Mr. Nimoy and his memory.  🙂

My Weekly Spock: Leonard and George

As George Takei’s labor of love Allegiance goes to Broadway this fall, it seemed a great time to remember  what good friend George was with Leonard. I found some wonderful pictures, not just from their TOS days, but though ST:IV and in 2012 when Leonard went to see the pre-Broadway version of Allegiance.  I’m so glad Leonard got to see his friend George’s wonderful musical, and I hope I’ll see it too!  The final picture was taken in 2014.  I’m sure George misses his friend.  ❤

Also note the wonderful picture here on the ST:IV set, where the little boy (Sulu’s great-great-great-great… grandfather in the story) is shyly standing in front of Leonard.    Sorry that scene of Sulu and his distant relative was never filmed, but the idea of it was was sweet.
