FArF: Stained Glass Trek (by Me!)

Hey Kids,

I’ve always been fascinated by the beautiful use of light and color on the Original Series.  Those colored gels on what were really just grey walls gave the series a magical, yet cozy feel.  For a sci-fi show on a tight budget, it gave the whole series a special nuance of calm; like stained glass windows in a church.

Inspired by this lighting magic, I started playing around with images on Photoshop the other night and created these ‘stained-glass’ images. I kept the faces clear of lines so as not to distract from their beauty.

I bet I’ll do a lot of these! (I’m even giving them their own category). Here’s Spock from Whom Gods Destroy and Uhura from The Tholian Web.

Enjoy the serenity, Therese ❤

Friends, I just heard from a reader here (and through trektoday.com) that dear Nichelle Nichols has suffered a stroke. You can read the whole story here.

Our love and prayers are with you Nichelle.

UPDATE: As of 6:25 PM EST: “Nichelle Nichols has had both a CAT scan and an MRI today. The CAT scan came back negative and we are awaiting the results from the MRI. Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses. “

#43 The Trouble with Tribbles

I’ve been grinding out a bunch of these Trek movie posters lately!  For the next few weeks you’ll see new ones every Tuesday and Thursday!  I made a variation of Kirk in the Tribbles here; his body from one scene and his head from the moment he says “WHERE?” to Scotty. Also it seemed only right to throw Koloth into the mix.

Enjoy, and let me know how you like them!   I’m up to # 50 now!

The Daily Scrapbook 8/20/13 “Uhura Speaks!”

Here’s today’s flashback: Another installment of Media Spotlight Magazine, this time, a great interview with delightful Ms. Nichols by writer Jim Burns.

The Daily Scrapbook 8/7/13 The Trek-Centric “Media Spotlight” 1977

Here’s today’s flashback. On a Saturday in  1977, I recall walking into the Waldenbooks a the mall  and found a magazine I had never seen before, and there was Mr. Spock in all his glory on the front!   Naturally my purse opened itself up and the dollars flew out to have this glorious cover shot. (even though it had very little to do with the magazine itself!)

Media Spotlight was a thinly disguised Star Trek zine, kind of like a poor newsprint cousin to the glossier Starlog magazine. It basked in the glory of the ’70’s Trek rebirth (complete with publicity stills and hastily sketched drawings of the crew) and kept you in touch with the stars, writers, and fans associated with the show (including the late, great Joan Winston) It also reported on other sci-fi shows of the time (Space 1999!, The Six Million Dollar Man!) but the original Trek was it’s favorite nest egg.  I’ll be posting articles from this edition through this week and beyond. And btw, this was the first prize in our Spock Lookalike Contest earlier this year! (Hey Roy, how do you like your mag?)  Enjoy.

The Daily Scrapbook: 3/14/13 (October 1978) Nichelle Nichols in Ebony Magazine/1st look at ST:TMP

Here’s today’s flashback:  From Ebony Magazine in October 1978, a quick blurb about Nichelle Nichols non-Trek, real life work for NASA. You Go Girl! Love her.   My late Dad had an enormous crush on her and used to joke that he’d leave my mother and marry her!    Also, a first look on the set of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.   I remember seeing this and, although I was happy to see Trek coming back, my first thought was:  “What the HELL have they done to the Uniforms!”  (Jeez, they were hideous, weren’t they?)V2-015
