Just a note to let you know that I’m still working on my Nimoy 90th birthday tribute- hope to have it finished over the weekend! Wishing you a lovely Spring weekend and a good rest. 🙂

Hi Everyone! I know I promised this last week, but life happens (I had a nasty fall last week, but I’m fine now) and I finally finished this today. (Working on a belated Nimoy 90th tribute too)
Happy Belated 90th Birthday to Bill Shatner – what a life! I think I’ve captured a moment from all nine decades you’ve been around. If you look closely, you’ll see pictures with a few couplings of Bill with actors he worked with more than once, dappled with some memorable Kirk moments as well as LOTS of humor. I especially like all the “Bills” having a group ‘hug’ at the bottom. Even Spock is having a laugh! So be sure to zoom in to see all the details!
I hope we can all be as sharp and active as The Shat Man is when we hit 90! Best wishes Always, Therese.

Hi Everyone!
As many of you know, today, March 26th, would have been Leonard Nimoy’s 90th Birthday! I haven’t forgotten, and as I am almost done with William Shatner’s 90th Birthday collage, I also working on Leonard’s 90th Birthday Tribute Collage too! I would have had both done today, but I had some glitches with my computer (probably from making so many collages!) But I hope to have them BOTH posted here tomorrow!
By the way, Today, in Honor of Leonard’s 90th, Leonard’s home town of Boston Massachusetts has declared today “Leonard Nimoy Day”! I’d like to think he’s enjoying it from above ❤

Thank you for your patience, and for now, enjoy this, some of my most favorite photos of Mr. Nimoy ever ! ❤ What a pleasure to have lived in the same time period as he did! Happy Heavenly 90th Birthday Sir! We’ll never forget you! ❤

As I was sorting through some stuff in my basement, I came across this beautiful, flat cover from CUE magazine, dated Dec 7 1979. New York CUE was a weekly city entertainment guide. (You know, the analog age!) As its focus was the latest in city culture and big time movie and TV releases, it makes perfect sense that our dear Mr. Spock was on the cover! Star Trek: The Motion Picture was just about to be released and the anticipation was high!
I guess I must have bought the magazine solely for the beautiful publicity shot of Leonard Nimoy and his melting brown eyes. “Spock Has the Right Stuff” indeed. Alas, I did NOT keep the rest of the magazine! I was happy to find this cover in beautiful condition though.

Eager to read the contents of the article, I scrubbed the ‘net for a copy of the article, and fortunately, found these images on eBay. (If you’d like to bid on/buy the whole magazine, here’s the link.)
Excellent article “Star Trekking to Hollywood” by Michael Musto. It includes quotes from Nimoy, Shatner, and Roddenberry, and Robert Wise credits his wife with saying “With no Spock, there can be no Star Trek!”
She was right at the time, of course. But I bet they never realized that this movie would launch a fleet of even newer voyages in Roddenberry’s Universe. Although at the time I was not too thrilled with the final product, in these 41 years since (!) I have found the story of ST:TMP as true to the original source material as it could have been: To explore strange new worlds , one often ends up discovering Themselves. I’m very thankful that ST:TMP was made, it gave Trek to a new generation, and marked it in the foundation of American Pop Culture.
If you’ve never seen it, I highly recommend it! (just fast-forward through the overly long close ups of the Enterprise). The only thing I couldn’t get past were the jumbo onesies on the crew; so glad it was changed to something more sophisticated and flattering in Star Trek II!
There’s a bonus side bar by Daphne Davis about the other blockbuster hitting the screens that year too – The Black Hole.
I’d like to thank whoever posted these images of Leonard online earlier this year! Leonard appeared on the variety show “The Hollywood Palace” on October 12 1968, and he is totally in the groove here, baby! Nehru Jacket, check. Silk neckerchief, check. Singing a long-lost song, check. Times have changed — not only are modern variety shows mostly reality competitions, but I think you’d be hard pressed to find current dramatic actors singing pop ballads before a live audience. But this was a big thing in the ’60s, even if the singers weren’t exactly Frank Sinatra!
You can hear Leonard singing it here. (you’ve been warned). But there’s just something about 30-something Nimoy attempting to bridge the Generation Gap makes me wince just a little! It’s like someone of my generation (b.1961) trying to sing hip-hop! Well, at least he looks cute here.
According to tv.com, Leonard also appeared with the “Bottoms Up Revue” in a sci-fi spoof titled “Star Odyssey 2001 7/8” If any of these videos or other images of this shows up, let me know!

Hi Everyone,
Imagine at TV series where there’s a mysterious alien traveling through time and space with a often silly companion and a little magic wand that helps him get through tough situations. No, not Doctor Who, although…
I’m thinking of Assignment: Earth, the would-be TV series born of the Star Trek episode of the same name. I think it might have had a chance in the spy-crazy era of the late 60’s. And with the cold war still raging at the time, Gary Seven and his cat Isis would have made a fun entry into TV land. Unfortunately, it wasn’t picked up, and we are only left with the one hour where Spock and Kirk are made to look really silly as Gary Seven embodies a cool only equaled by Spock.

The more I looked into the brief world of Gary Seven, the more I see homage to (or copyright of?) Dr. Who. Consider after all, he can travel anywhere through time and he has his own little version of a ‘sonic screwdriver’. And if he and Miss Lincoln are to have “…interesting experiences” together, Hmm, I think I’m beginning to see where the inspiration came from…

From what we’ve seen, Gary is a lot like The Doctor. He seems to be awfully intelligent about well, everything, he is often sent on missions to fix events in time (boy could we use him now), and using the convenient ‘screwdriver’ that is often the determinant between escape or capture. We never see the ship he travels in, but it is assumed that his ‘assignments’ take him all over the galaxy through different eras. He’s a Time Lord.

Miss Roberta Lincoln would make a good companion. She’s young, quirky, a bit daft, but determined to make a statement (“We want to know if we’ll be alive when we’re 30!”) I think of the series were picked up at the time, I hope she would evolve into a stronger female character, yet in reality, if it was picked up the 60’s she’s probably remain more comic relief, at least until the advent of the Women’s Movement. Now if it was made today, I’m pretty sure she’d be more like a combination The Doctor’s companions; I’m thinking Donna Noble, Clara Oswald and a little Martha Jones, and she’d be much more interesting. Unfortunately we have little insight into Roberta left. Teri Garr, who played Roberta, noted in her memoir: *
“I played Roberta Lincoln, a dippy secretary in a pink and orange costume in a very short skirt. Had the spin-off succeeded, I would have continued on as an earthling agent, working to preserve humanity. In a very short skirt.”
Then there’s Gary Seven’s cat, Isis. Of course we found out at the very end that Isis was actually a shape-shifter; she briefly appeared as a human sex-kitten lounging on Seven’s couch, much to a flummoxed Roberta Lincoln’s instant jealousy. Isis wears cat ears and purrs in her human form! Yet Gary depends on her greatly, and acknowledges her advice. Maybe she’s Gary’s River Song (The 11th Doctor’s wife).

No doubt Isis’ little trick was meant as a teaser to entice the would-be buyer of this pilot-within-a-Star Trek-episode to want more. So is Isis a woman in a cat’s body or a cat in a woman’s body? The world may never know…
As a bonus, I’ve always loved how Spock was instantly ‘strangely attracted’ to Isis. It’s fun to see the real chemistry between Nimoy and the cat in the Briefing Room. The cat sits and purrs contentedly in his arms, eyes slowly opening and closing. Cats know a good person. Although speaking from a character’s point of view, I wonder if Isis was subtly mind-melding with Spock, or giving off pheromones, or at least good vibes? How else to explain Spock’s urge to cuddle? But then, he had the same, if embarrassed reaction to Tribbles! It was a cute touch.

So I wonder, why wasn’t Assignment: Earth picked up as a series? Was it too expensive, too far fetched? Would it have continued to connect with the original Star Trek series? Well…
Turns out Assignment Earth did find a way to continue after it’s ill-fated pilot. Comic book writer and artist John Byrne did write a 5 volume sequel to Assignment Earth – in glorious graphic novel style! The issues cover 5 years, starting 3 months from the date Enterprise left Gary and Roberta to figure their fate. Each issue presents a year later. These came out a while back, but you can find all 5 in digital versions on Comixology.

Of course, since Gary Seven is part of the Star Trek universe, maybe he could turn up on Picard? Or sequel-mad CBS All Access could reconsider that little pilot, updated for the times. I could see Mahershala Ali or Adam Driver or as Seven.

How did you feel about Assignment: Earth and Gary Seven? Please let me know in the comments!

And now, a Public Service Announcement from trekkerscrapook.com
My Dear Friends and Fellow Trek Fans, We are going through a bizarre, somewhat surreal time in our world right now. I know you are all aware of the Corona Virus which causes COVID-19. There is no doubt that is very scary, and we are all stressed from worrying and preparing for it.
Although we cannot predict how long this will last or if we ourselves will be infected, I hope and pray that all reading this are taking precautions to prevent the spread of this malady, and that our families and friends will stay healthy and well.
We wonder how to keep ourselves occupied without our regular daytime activities, yet this pandemic also offers us a rare chance at simpler lives; taking time to enjoy our families at home, catching up on books and home chores and projects. In this creative spirit, I patched together the collage below, advising us on Corona Virus, as presented by some old pals 😉 You may share this but please be sure to credit me 🙂 Enjoy.
Today is the first day of Spring, and we will be reborn, it will just be a bit later. Kirk and Company would take this head on, as we can. Stay happy, stay strong, be logical. The Human Spirit is our strength. God Bless you all, and LLAP!

Today, February 27th, has always been a special day for me because it was my mother Anna’s Birthday. This year is extra special because today is the 100th Anniversary of my darling Mom’s birth!
The circumstance of her birth was not too uncommon for families at the time. On this day in 1920, my Nana, Mary, went into labor in her home, and my Mom was delivered on her family’s kitchen table! From what I understand, it was a tricky delivery, but thankfully my Mom made it through, and had a quite incredible life for a a blessed 93 years. She passed on in 2013. Of course one never gets through the loss of their beloved Mom and Dad, but as time goes on, you do have the comfort of seeing them in yourself; like when I warm a child’s hands or greet someone new and ask “Where’re you from?” (That is SO Mom!). I have some audio and video of Mom that is also a blessing. So today I send up my loving wishes for a Happy Heavenly 100th Birthday to Mom, I know that Dad and all of our passed loved ones are dancing in the clouds! I love you Mommy.
This brings me to the other reason why this date has some significance. As many of you know, it was a sad 5 years ago today that Leonard Nimoy passed away. In the wake of it being the same day as my Mom’s Birth, I admit, it is not the first thing that popped into my head this morning, but I know it is important to my readers and his many fans around the world. It’s a sad coincidence for me.
Although I’d much prefer to honor and celebrate our late Star Trek family members on their birthdays, I would have felt guilty had I not at least post a picture of Leonard to mark the sad occasion. So going through my archives, I found this one, which always makes me smile.
Leonard meant many different things to so many people, and my Mom liked him too, but the word that one hears the most is “beloved”. And I think that is all that one really needs to be remembered; that they were loved and cherished. We can be loved and cherished through our actions and kindness for all those around us. I do wish you all such love in your life, and may memories of your loved ones bring you comfort and happiness all of your days.
