My Weekly Spock: That First Trek:TMP Press Conference (1978) (Gallery)

136740475And the band got back together! As the latest Trek movie was released the other week, I thought it would be fun to look back on the first press conference for the movie that started the series way back in March of 1978.  Here’s Leonard and company looking splendid on that happy day.  He looks so genuinely thrilled at this impromptu nearly-10 year reunion! Love that velvet blazer! Bless them All!

Video — 1979 Star Trek TMP Premiere!

A fair quality video with lots of good stuff here – Gorgeous Leonard Nimoy appears @ 8:00 (and a bit later) — poor Sandra looks terrified through most of this.  Poor woman, I think she never got used to the publicity. (a fan gives Leonard a gift)  Great to see our old friends here — Dig Majel Barret’s ‘spiderweb neckline!  And Sweet De Kelley!

Happy Heavenly Birthday DeForest Kelley

Remembering De Kelley on his special day.  He is well missed, but I’m sure Leonard is happy to be with his old friend. ❤

My Weekly Spock: Convention Time!

I found some pictures taken at a Trek convention in the early 70’s – (1973 or ’74?) Good old days! (And the blue Denim suit that keeps on giving!)

The Daily Scrapbook 8/21/13 “Inside Science Fiction”

Hey, this is my 500th post!

Here’s today’s flashback;  Another installment of Media Spotlight.  This time it’s “Inside Science Fiction” by  Jackie Lichtenberg, where she reviews the latest sci-fi related projects by our favorite Trek stars.  Especially noteworthy is the LP album Inside Star Trek, which I remember buying at the time for  @ $8.00, a big chunk out of my budget for the time.  It featured Gene Roddenberry chatting with De Kelley, Bill Shatner and most notably Mark Lenard as Sarek, discussing the fascinating ordeal of  Spock’s birth.  I still have that LP somewhere, although nowhere to play it!  The article also mentions that fans should get a hold of Leonard Nimoy’s recordings of The Martian Chronicles, although they might be a bit too expensive for your average geek’s wallet.  The author extols Nimoy on his “rich, velvet voice”.  There’s also interesting insights on how “The City on the Edge of Forever might have been if writer Harlan Ellison had his way (a footnote of Star Trek production legend is about how much Ellison hated the way his original script was edited into the legendary episode that aired.  (To his credit, Ellison won a Writer’s Guild of America’s Award for his original teleplay).

#32 “Friday’s Child”

In the spirit of completely misleading 1960’s movie posters, it seemed logical to present Friday’s Child as a comedy! (This was totally inspired by the ridiculous REAL publicity picture of Kirk and Eleen!)   Two posters in two days, I guess I’m on a roll!  It also mildly references Three Men and a Baby, which as you know was directed by Mr. Nimoy in the 1980’s.

The Daily Scrapbook, Volume 1 10/2/12

Here’s today’s blast from the past.  A fascinating piece from the New York Times sent to me by one of my Aunts about rival Star Trek Conventions, all after the Trekkie dollar. (That Trek huckster is really rockin’ the Mirror Spock look) A portion of  a TV Guide article about nostalgia conventions, and a local article about Deforest Kelley being interviewed by WHRW, the local college station.   I remember listening to that radio interview, and recording it with my new, handy, bright yellow Panasonic “Take n’ Tape” Cassette recorder!  I called the station afterwards and chatted a while with the interviewer, Mona Delitsky.  She was wonderful, and thankful that someone was listening.  We chatted about our Star Trek loves for a good 20 minutes.  I vaguely recall meeting her a a later at another Trek event, and I told her about our previous conversation, but she didn’t remember it. No big deal; sometimes I don’t even remember what I ate for breakfast!

My Weekly Spock (belated)

Fun to see them in makeup but out of costume. I think Nimoy is cleaning his contact lens here.  Nice watch!
