I think it’s always good to start the week off with a smile! Leonard had such a warm, genuine smile 🙂
Hi Everyone! It’s been a couple of crazy weeks for me, for I went through an awful bout of pneumonia! Happy to report that I am well recovered now, and just happy to be back to my normal silly self again!
Tomorrow here in the USA, it’s Thanksgiving. I’m baking some pies today and will make some nice turkey and fixings on Thursday. But in the meantime I thought it would be fun to recall five things about Star Trek TOS that I’m grateful for. Any of your favorites here? Be sure to add yours in the comment section. And for all our friends celebrating, Have a Happy And Safe Thanksgiving! ❤
Here Goes:
Where it all began. In the fertile mind of Gene Roddenberry, the beginnings of a world where Earth lives in peace, harmony, and diversity. A dream we all still strive for and will ever hope to achieve. Maybe someday.
If ever I was sick in TOS Universe, nothing would calm me better than the warm blue eyes and calm bedside manner of dear ol’ Bones.

Who knew the future would be so colorful? The glorious designs of William Ware Theiss not only implied a brighter future, but were often just bits of fabric pinned together! Theiss was a genius who inspires many to this day. (Me too; I make doll clothes!)
Kirk was well aware of Humanity’s flaws, but that never let that stop him from defending (and saving) the Human race from total destruction. Kirk has faith in the good of Humanity, and will always fight for it. May we all be examples of best in Humanity; Love, Respect, and Caring. And finally…

Hi Everybody, How about a little on-set Spock? More positive images from the negatives ‘rexliv’ is selling on eBay. Many of these are still up for sale (not the first one, unfortunately!) I just bought the one with McCoy!
It’s 10:48 p.m. EDT as I write this so there’s still time to say Happy Halloween! Hope you’re having (had) a fun day! I had a very busy one, that’s why I’m so late! Here the classic I’ve posted for a few years now; next year I should have a new one! Enjoy! -Therese

Today should always be a holiday for Trek fans everywhere! On this day, September 8, 1966, Star Trek premiered on NBC. I doubt anyone then thought it would become a milestone in modern science fiction, and glancing at some of these reviews you could see a sense of doubt. But aren’t we lucky that it got on the air after all? To my knowledge, Star Trek was the only network TV series that got two pilots made!
Unfortunately, the original episodes were not shown in shooting order, but rather the first episode the network preferred, which was The Man Trap. (even the artwork for its premiere featured Where No Man has Gone Before!). Man Trap was a good episode, but not the best offering for a show that was attempting to be seen as serious. Although the Salt Vampire was seen sympathetically, she was still, alas, a monster, and some early critics saw little potential beyond that, probably laughing it off as another kiddie sci-fi like Lost in Space. Bit other critics saw potential, and I think if the original Trek wasn’t shoehorned into a cemetery-shift time-slot by its 3rd and final season, it might have made it to a full 5-year journey.
There’s a part of me that would have loved to see the original Trek progress into 5 seasons (up to 1971) but somehow, I think without Roddenberry as the main producer (Fred Freiberger took over in season 3) I suspect it may have gotten worse. Freiberber preferred action over deeper philosophical themes. In a way, we were lucky it ended in 1969, for I doubt it would become the timeless phenomenon it became in the decade long gap between TOS and the first movie.
It was syndication that brought it more to the masses, nation and world-wide, and when more people saw it then, NBC realized what a treasure it cast away. Fortunately for us, we can say the catchphrase which started in the ’70’s with ferocious pride: “Star Trek Lives!”

Hey All,
Recently I posted a picture of young Leonard on an FB page that caters to vintage images (1st picture below) and, to me at least, it was surprising to read the comments. Many seemed ‘shocked’ that he was ‘attractive’ in his youth, readers compared him to Paul Newman, Kevin Costner, and Chris Evans! And comments ranged from ‘So Handsome!’, ‘Swoon’ and ‘Who knew?’ to “He’s positively scary looking to me!” and ‘Yuck!”
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally (of course) he was perfection to me as a 13 year old. 40+ years on it seems he still had something that just made him beautiful. Not just the soft brown eyes, the hair, perfect jawline and warm smile, but especially that he was a genuinely good, loving, creative, and compassionate human being. It’s easy for someone who wasn’t familiar with him to scoff at his ‘unconventional’ handsomeness. To me it was enough that Nimoy himself didn’t find himself attractive, but he didn’t have to; we all saw it for him, and we loved him for himself.
The world could use more Leonard Nimoys. ❤
