FArFri — “Nimoy- Star” by tafafa

As long as we’re in the 70’s groove this week here’s some serious funk-a riffic art by artist tafafa on Deviant art. Tafa LOVES to paint Nimoy in all the phases of his life, check out her stuff! Dig those bell bottoms!  Hmmm, wonder what he’s singing?

Leonard Nimoy Should Sue the National Examiner

I hate tabloids.

Every week as I check out my groceries,  among the TV Guides and Oprah magazines, a new batch of glossy, gossip rags blare at me from the checkout counter. I don’t give them much notice, and the ones I do notice are pretty laughable.   They range in sensationalism from bad to worse but the worst of these is likey The National Examiner, which is probably the most outrageous.  The covers of this particular tab specializes in paparazzi shots that capture celebrities at their worst.  This week’s caught my eye not for who’s got cellulite or the latest scandal, but for the latest in their most morbid, and what appears to be continuing series:  “SAD LAST  DAYS!”  They trot these out every few weeks or so, guess who was on the cover of this weeks?

examinerYup.

Now, I didn’t bother to read the actual article, and I wouldn’t spend a penny on them*, but what bothers me most is  that whenever a celebrity’s mortality is truly or falsely at stake, this particular tab insists that their “last days” are always ‘Sad’ ones. Because of course, ALL celebrities cannot come to a good end. They must suffer horribly because they are rich and famous.

I got news for the National Examiner.  Everyone ages. Everyone dies. And not every celebrity can look 100% perfect at every outing. And no matter HOW they look, you can’t  condemn them to death just because they’re having a bad hair day or more wrinkles than they used to.  Yes, of course many beloved celebrities are not as young as they used to be, but you know what?  They’ve worked hard for their success, they’ve made millions of people happy, and above all, they’re happy with themselves! (Even if some of them are sick!**)  So lay off this crap! Or if you must peddle it, go digital and save a million trees!

Mr. Nimoy, Sir,  I presume from your recent tweets that you’re fine.  But I think you, Ed, Michael, Marjorie, Mary, Suzanne, and Dolly should sue these fools. You don’t deserve this.

FArFri – Party Spock!

My niece found me this on Tumblr (Thanks Michelle!) So funny, and I give the unknown artist props for his or her clever photo manipulation!  Every party is better with Party Spock in the House!

Spock sight gag on The Simpsons

I just got a chance to catch last Sunday’s new (Christmas themed) episode of The Simpsons– and in a parody of a bad Christmas game, an evil snowman was slashing up a video display of bad Christmas specials!   Note our Vulcan pal on the left! (Actually, I think that Jingle Bell Spock would make a great special!) 😀

Toon Time — ‘Dress Rehearsal’

Spock surely finds this situation “a puzzlement”.  I’d just say it’s fair play!

My Weekly Spock – Pretty Handy

Creative people always use their hands a lot in conversations and Mr. Nimoy is no exception. I noticed he used his hands a lot when I saw him in person last June,  and as I am half-Italian, I can always appreciate that type of expressiveness in a person!  I’ll never forget him throwing out the Vulcan salute as he got into his cab that day with a big smile on his face (sorry I didn’t catch it in a picture). Here’s some ‘handy’ pics. 😉

A murderous hand? Eeek!

My Weekly Spock — From 1954: Nimoy on Dragnet

Daaaah- Da- Dum-Dum.     Daaaah- Da- Dum-Dum -DAAAAAAAAH!

Yup, anyone over 35 should recognize those famous opening bars from the great old Jack Webb series Dragnet.  (God, I’m old!) Many a young future star would be cast as that weeks latest juvenile delinquent, and Nimoy was no exception.  So without further adieu, here’s “Just the Facts, Ma’am”…

Last week we had some vintage stills from Nimoy’s appearance on Highway Patrol, this week he’s still on the wrong side of the law as young punk Julius Carver on the episode “The Big Boys” — note the goofy mustache!  Here he is with his co-conspirator in the famous ‘line-up’ pictures seen at the end of each episode!  Nimoy later appeared on Dragnet again in 1959, but I’m still looking for that one.

With all the ‘heavy’ roles he had to play, is it any wonder Nimoy was pleased to play Spock; a character his “mother could be proud of”! IMG_7803

IMG_7804 IMG_7802 Here’s a video clip I found of Nimoy’s very short scenes:

My Weekly Spock – Nimoy as ‘Ray’ on Highway Patrol

Here’s Leonard as Ray,  a heavy (of course) on the Highway Patrol episode ‘Blood Money’. (1958) As sleek and suave as Don Draper, even when his Brylcreem fails, yet such a gangly runner over the railroad tracks! But he gets to wear a cool porkpie hat, and at least he didn’t die in the end –you don’t mess with Broderick Crawford, kids!

My Weekly Spock: Happy Paris!

Since Paris seemed so somber and serious last week,  I thought we should see his happy side too! See, spying isn’t all bad! (But that Brillo beard has got to go!)
