“Olympic Smoker” Nimoy on Piers Morgan (Partial VIDEO)
Mr. Nimoy gave a fine and heartfelt interview on CNN last night with Piers Morgan. In this segment he talks about how he was an ‘Olympic Smoker’ and the ignorance of tobacco dangers when he was young. Here’s that part of the interview’; I hope to get the full interview up later. He did great! Rock on, Grandpa.

My Weekly Spock– Some Sublime Spock Lighting
I got to looking at some stills from Season 1 of Trek and I gotta tell you, I think the lighting in season 1 was some of the most beautiful in the history of television. The lighting had film noir quality with lots of shadows and ‘baby’ spotlights on the eyes. By Season 3, the budget was tighter than ever and the lighting just wasn’t as ethereal and painterly as it was in the first two seasons.
Anyway, here’s some sublimely lit Spock for you…

Leonard Nimoy has announced he suffers from chronic lung disease and is speaking out about the dangers of smoking.
The actor best known as Star Trek‘s Mr. Spock says he he has been diagnosed with obstructive pulmonary disease. COPD is a general term that can be used to describe several lung diseases, including emphysema, chronic bronchitis and non-reversible asthma, according to the COPD Foundation.
“I’m doing OK. Just can’t walk distances. Love my life, family, friends and followers,” Nimoy, 82, Tweets, adding, “LLAP” – for “live long and prosper.”
“I quit smoking 30 yrs ago,” he says. “Not soon enough. I have COPD. Grandpa says, quit now!! LLAP.”
“Smokers, please understand. If you quit after you’re diagnosed with lung damage it’s too late. Grandpa says learn my lesson. Quit now. LLAP.”
But Nimoy reassures his followers that he is still going strong: “Just taped my comments for Star Trek Fest to be aired on EPIX Feb. 16th. Still enjoying my life. LLAP”

Wideo Wednesday 2/5/14 Spock Quotes by Becky the Trekky
Hey Kids,
I gotta be honest, it’s been quite a while since I’ve watched an entire original Star Trek Episode. I’ve seen bits and pieces in YouTube mash-ups and occasional documentaries. Once in a while I get an urge to watch an oldie (This Side of Paradise and Mirror, Mirror come to mind), but in the shuffle of real life, I had forgotten about how much insightful writing was done on the show, and this is well evidenced in this great collection of Spock quotes. Many of the quotes are about his annoyance with humans, but ironically these quotes bring out his human side too! (Not to mention how wonderful it is to hear Nimoy’s silky baritone delivery). Thanks to “Becky the Trekky” for creating this, nice job!
I have ideas for some videos on my own whenever I get around to it! Enjoy!

My Weekly Spock– Nimoy in Marco Polo (1982)
The late 1970’s and 80’s were a prime time on TV for the miniseries. With the success of Shogun there was a rush of other grand adventures created. Here is Marco Polo from 1982. An all star cast included Leonard Nimoy as Lord Achmed – who is sort of good and evil, a bit conniving. (Well, of course he’s evil, look at that beard!) He did well with a moderate part, although he first comes off as a bit…Shatner-esque? (A bit breathless with lots of pauses in his speeches) But by the time his character dies we at least get a feeling for some of his personal traits! Nimoy never got the girl in these movies, and was again relegated to a ‘heavy’ – but hey, he got a free trip to China!
- Leonard Nimoy as the conniving Lord Achmed in the 1982 miniseries “Marco Polo”
- He knows how to wear an evil beard
- Polo, You call that a beard?
- My beard’s pointier than yours!
- Of course I know something about points!
- Yes, I always wear this pith helmet
- What you say, Polo?
- What’d’ya mean this hairdo makes my ears look pointed?
- Yeah, Bill hid my bike all the time…
- Top knots are cool…
- Mine’s still pointier than yours…
- Maybe you have a girlfriend, but I have a harem…
- I have to pose for the Yuan now…
- Work’s over, bring in the girls…
- You’ll do.
- Yes, I do wear this robe well…
- Now get lost, will you?
- It’s okay, dear, it’s just a piece of gum…
- Do you know “Beyond Antares?”
- Tastiest nailpolish I’ve ever had
- NOW you call me? I was about to get laid!
- Alright, I’ll see him in a minute
- AAUUGH! That was a mistake…
- Well, that wraps it up for this movie…

Hello Everyone! Welcome to Newbies!
Well, well, it seems my viewership here has grown exponentially since yesterday! I just want to take a moment to say Hi and thanks to all my new subscribers and for your wonderful comments here!
I started this blog in 2011, and have filled it with my clippings, anecdotes and art related to the original series of Star Trek. So far I have posted entries from my three original Star Trek scrapbooks (hence the blog title) that I collected in the 1970’s. I do have a fourth scrapbook somewhere but haven’t found it yet! You may have noticed that my blog is somewhat Spock/Nimoy centric 😉 , since I’ve been in love with the man for 40 years now! I hope you’re enjoying it and I hope you will explore the many different categories. I am especially fond of my original ‘StarTreKomics‘ that I post from time to time, and I also have been working on a series of Star Trek Posters that present the original 79 episodes as old style movie posters, among other things. There is also ‘My Weekly Spock’ segment every Monday that presents one or photos of Nimoy as Spock, himself, or as the many other characters he’s played. (for more pics, see my original version ‘My Daily Spock‘) Often on Wednesdays I have Wideo Wednesday where I post a fun video of whatever strikes my fancy (sometimes Trek) Every Friday I have FArFri, which stands for ‘Fan Art Friday’ where I showcase the unique and marvelous Star Trek art I have found on the net.
Of course I have many interests outside of Star Trek, (see categories on right) and they get mentioned here from time to time. If you should need any more info about me, just click on the “ABOUT” link at the top of the page. (where you’ll see a silly 20 year old picture of me in my home-made Trek uniform!) If needed, you can also Contact me here. Keep those cards comments and letters e-mails coming!
BTW, I produce this blog in the most old fashioned of ways — on my Desktop Computer with an old IBM keyboard! I have a fun time posting and creating, and nice way to say “Hi!” to Trek fans from all over. Of course, I don’t post every day, and am very busy with my work and family, but if I can bring a little smile to you, my work is done! Knowing that anyone even reads this is a pleasure to me, Enjoy, and I wish you all Peace and Long Life! -Therese 🙂

Leonard Nimoy has COPD
Last night Mr. Nimoy tweeted the following:
COPD is the following:
COPD, or chronic obstructive pulmonary (PULL-mun-ary) disease, is a progressive disease that makes it hard to breathe. “Progressive” means the disease gets worse over time.
COPD can cause coughing that produces large amounts of mucus (a slimy substance), wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, and other symptoms.
Cigarette smoking is the leading cause of COPD. Most people who have COPD smoke or used to smoke. Long-term exposure to other lung irritants—such as air pollution, chemical fumes, or dust—also may contribute to COPD.
Sad to hear this, although not too surprised. I recall Mr. Nimoy had a awful coughing fit during the above appearance, and he was brought water which helped. Unfortunately there is no cure, but at least there are treatments and lifestyle changes can help one feel better, stay more active, and slow the progress of the disease.
I was a little surprised that Mr. Nimoy announced this problem publicly, but I suspect he knows his fans, and like a good Dad, (or Grandpa, as he wants his fans to call him) he wants his ‘family’ to know. He knows he won’t live forever, and in his grace, he’s letting us down gently.
I have no doubt that Mr. Nimoy knows how much he is LOVED by so many people around the world, and how happy he has made so many of us. Sir, if your reading this, we send you our love and prayers, and best wishes for a comfortable, healthier existence. May you truly Live Long and Prosper. Many hugs and thanks “Grandpa” Love, Therese
My Weekly Spock – Personal Appearances
Hey Kids,
Mr. Nimoy made a lot of personal appearances in the 70’s, and here’s a typical 8×10 glossy from the chain store Two Guys. I found this on the site plaidstallions.com which is the mother load of all things 70’s! (Especially bad fashion, but Leonard looks great here!)
