My Weekly Spock – Tuxedo Junction

Last night was the Oscars, and in awards season, it was always nice to see Leonard in a Tux!  I don’t know who made the Spock mash-up, but it works!      😉  Also including here an video of Leonard talking about being nominated for an Emmy and how Sci-Fi is rarely respected in the awards column.  A shame he never did get an Emmy for Spock, although he was nominated for all three seasons.  I bet if Trek went on, he would have kept on being nominated, but I doubt the Emmy’s would have recognized his brilliance   😦  He’ll always be a winner to me!

I Finally Wept – A Year Later. Remembering Leonard

carnation_n

A beautiful portrait of Leonard in the “Vincent” years.

One year ago today, when Leonard Nimoy passed away from end-stage COPD, I sat back and reflected on how this wonderful actor affected the lives and joys of so many people around the world, and how he’d be sorely missed.  I wrote this remembrance, and noted there that although I was saddened, I didn’t actually weep tears over his passing.

Well, it only took nearly a year, but it finally happened.  It didn’t last long, but it felt good to get it out at last.  It started a few weeks ago when I was surfing for more material to use here when I came across many posts about Trek‘s upcoming 50th anniversary.  I could see that Shatner and others were gearing up for the event, and realizing that Leonard isn’t here for the celebration he so richly deserved just hit me in the heart, and to my surprise, the tears flowed.  Damn, I thought this is so unfair!  The one person who to me was Star Trek isn’t here to enjoy the celebration.  It made me wish so hard that he could have made it through to the anniversary, or at least to his next birthday, but it was too late.

In the end, I know that disease knows no date, nor age, nor celebrity.  And a condition as harsh as COPD is so awfully hard to live with, especially in the end.  If Mr. Nimoy had survived his (suspected) heart attack and deteriorating health up to the time of the anniversary, he may not have been up to much of a celebration anyway. (Although I’m sure he would have been very happy with it).

I dried my tears and sighed. But I took comfort in knowing his family was with him, and from this;  Leonard had actually had made it to the 50th anniversary of the first time he played Spock in 1964, and I’m sure he was proud of that achievement.  I had noted that milestone here, and I’m glad I did.  Leonard was well aware of the coming Trek anniversary, and I’m sure he would have loved to be part of it.  But I also know he was happy with the love and support he received from all over the world as he lived, and weren’t we lucky for his existence?

Rest in Peace, Mr. Nimoy.  We’ll never forget you. ❤

My Weekly Spock: Toronto Turtleneck Mystery…

I came across these wonderful (and remarkably hot) photos of Leonard when he did a radio interview with Betty Kennedy for Toronto radio on April 7, 1969.  He’s quickly grown out the Spock hair and sideburns, and is all ready to be Paris on Mission: Impossible.  I also came across a similar close-up of him in a room with damask wallpaper, but I’m not sure if it’s the same day (hair is very similar) and he changed his turtleneck, or it this was just a different day. I’m guessing the latter~ But no matter, it’s Leonard Prime!

My Weekly Spock: Telethon Man

Leonard did a Variety Club Telethon in 1970 in Vancouver Canada, and another 1973.  His hair is so short in the earlier one I believe because he was filming Assault on the Wayne at the time.  Always compassionate for his fellow man, Leonard did a lot of charity work.  Just another reason to love him!

My Weekly Spock: Rare Head Shot Restored

This week I’m featuring a rare head shot of Leonard that I bought from Historic Images.  I’ve seen a similar version from this session where he has a full smile, but in this one the smile is a little less broad.  These head shots were often used for reference in AP articles.  Historic Images also send a newspaper clipping of this practice in action; in this case, a  celebrity horoscope from 1972.  ( btw, the image of Nimoy was taken in 1969!)

I show first the original, which was quite grubby as it was probably stored in the bottom of a filing case for reference.  It had a lot of yellowing and a bit filmy. (looks like someone scratched his name into the film!)  I’m including both here so you can see the restoration I applied.  Enjoy!

Here’s the little clipping attached to the back of the glossy; if features a celebrity horoscope suggesting that Aries Leonard will become enamored of physic phenomena this week! (hmm.. precursor to “In Search Of?”)

FArF: Spock N’ Roll! LPs that never were!

This week I’m featuring two delightful LP mash-ups featuring Leonard!  True, he didn’t actually record this discs, but the artists made them so convincing I wish they were real!

The first is by the brilliant Chris Shapan featuring a mash-up her is based on The Best of Jolson (Al Jolson of the first talking movie The Jazz Singer), and Shapan has morphed it beautifully into a believable Leonard Nimoy album; it almost makes me wish it really existed!  (Well, almost!) You can see more of  Shapan’s brilliant LP mash-ups here.

The second has turned Spock into the Vulcan Elvis!  I wish I knew who made tis, it’s perfect!  I wonder if Spock would have had this hair if Star Trek was made in the 50’s?  You’ll notice all the songs have Trek references — Another great mash up from an unknown artist.   Sharp-eyed (or should I say obsessive) fans will notice a small flaw in both of these — let me know if you see it!

But for now, these have inspired me to make another in my series of Beatle/Trek LP mashups, and you’ll see it soon (you know how I love to collage!) 11692614_860080514062602_3163098512961511766_n

1000 Posts!!! (and a Request)

Well here’s a milestone I never expected; this is my 1000th post! How’d that happen?

I started this blog way back on June 11, 2011, and I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I’d write this much about this ol’ TV show, or about Mr. Nimoy, or just anything else that popped into my head.  And I definitely never imagined that anyone would read my little blog, let alone have a following!    At the time I had minimal experience with blogs, writing posts for the wonderful Basket of Kisses site, but I just wanted to bring to life the Star Trek Universe from my corner of the world.  It’s been a fun and wonderful learning experience.  Often rewarding (like helping Celeste Yarnall with her cancer fund), and just knowing I can make some people smile) and sometimes frustrating (Is anyone actually reading my full posts are just looking at the picture in the promo on Facebook?)  Sometimes I regret the name I gave this site too, as it tends gets confused with delightful (and very popular) My Star Trek Scrapbook.

And now a request: Nothing would make me happier than hearing from you in regards to what you like here and what you’d like to see? I always love reading comments from you and it inspires me to create more.  So please let me know:

  • What’s your favorite feature?
  • Do you like my Trek toons and posters?
  • Is there enough Nimoy? Too much?
  • What would you like to see?
  • Should I change the name of this blog?
  • Also, if you have a piece of TOS memorabilia, TOS production photos,  candid photos of Leonard Nimoy, or an old article you’d like to share, please send me a picture of it here at:

http://trekkerscrapbook@gmail.com

I will credit you when it’s published. 🙂

So here’s to the next 1000, and I’ll be back tomorrow with this week’s installment of Fan Art Fridays (aka FArF).  I’m especially looking forward to writing posts this year in this special golden anniversary of the original series. I have many things in mind, new videos and categories that I hope you’ll enjoy!   Thank you so much for your support through good and bad, and if you know anyone who likes or is just discovering The Original Series, let them know about my little site!  Share the geekness!   Thanks! Therese ❤

Julie’s Tribute to her Dad, Please Help Fund her Nimoy COPD Documentary.

ayrqxqcb4zurqs7ju8paJulie Nimoy is currently working on this documentary COPD Highly Illogical, A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy, about her father’s COPD.   I wanted to post this here today to help her reach her crowdfunding goal. This will be wonderful when it’s finished.

I’ll never forget seeing Nimoy in 2013 in NYC — I recall he had a awful coughing fit. This was before his diagnosis of COPD was made public, poor man. But this documentary will help spread awareness of COPD, and help others to discover and help their condition. All contributions welcome. It’s the logical thing to do! LLAP.
