Any time deleted footage from TOS is found, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning! There’s only two lines of extra dialogue, but it adds to the drama!

Hey Kids,
Today is a special anniversary! It was 50 years ago today, November 17, 1966, that Star Trek aired the first part of it’s only 2-part episode, The Menagerie, on NBC.
The episode conveniently helped keep production costs down by recycling Star Trek’s original pilot The Cage into a new story about Spock’s loyalty to his first captain, Christopher Pike. Pretty clever, actually, and aren’t we grateful for it! Gene didn’t want the pilot to be forgotten, and by making it the center of a new episode, it built up the canon of the original series.
But even more importantly, it offered first insights into Mr. Spock’s past, and revealed his devotion to his first captain, now seriously paralyzed, and willingness to risk court martial and even death to give his captain a better life. It also gave us our first inklings into just how human this logical, stoic Vulcan could be. I’ll discuss more about it in a future post. But for now, I really loved this episode. A shame there were not more two-parters made.

Fun fact: Did you know that ‘The Menagerie’ and ‘Court Martial’ were filmed back-to-back? Maybe they had narrow window for dress uniform rentals! 😉

Well, I did it! After 5 years of creating, I finally finished all 79 posters in my Trek Episode Series! At first, because it was the final episode, I was going to add as many of the characters as I could for the sake of posterity. But then, as much as I love the whole Enterprise crew, the real story here is between Kirk and Lester, and it just fell into place. Notice how the title mimics the female form! It seemed fitting that the final episode’s tag line dovetail with the first episode we saw Kirk in: Where No Man Has Gone Before. And one can only wonder, if the original series wasn’t canceled, how we would have seen Uhura, Chapel, and many other female character evolve in the writing during the budding Feminist movement. I’m sure fan fiction and countless novels picked up the torch here, but there will always be room for more!
I hope you’ve enjoyed this series of movie-style-inspired posters of the Original Series episodes. I really delighted in creating them, even when it was an episode I didn’t like, and it was fun to give them the thrilling mystery of the weekly serials. What a ride!

Getting close to the end! Here’s Requiem for Methuselah – I always felt bad for sweet Rayna (as heart-fully played by the beautiful Louise Sorel) and Kirk was so selfish. But Flint was really a tragic character, and so well acted by James Daly. Note all of Flint’s reincarnations on the wall! And my apologies to Eric Clapton for borrowing his lyrics here, but they seemed so appropriate!

This cracked me up… based on the painting Aristotle with a bust of Homer, by Rembrandt, Kirk admires a bust of his friend’s mirror image! I don’t know who made this, but bravo!

Just came across a bunch of these pieces featuring pop culture characters as Egyptian hieroglyphics! Kirk is naturally the pharaoh and Spock is can truly walk like an Egyptian! This is clever in so many ways; I especially love the Gorn in the corner! You can see more of these wonders here.

I’ve been working on this for a few weeks now -finally done! I had to get it in before October was over! I’m thinking Autumn is the favorite season on the Enterprise! I also love Bill’s face here; the gift that keeps on giving!
