Update #2 10:15am June 5, 2016

The MRI showed that Nichelle Nichols had a MINOR stroke. She will start therapy this morning to evaluate how much damage was done, and try to determine her chances for a full or partial recovery. The therapists will test her hand at writing and legs to see if she can stand and walk on her own. Last night Nichelle remained alert, and cheerful.

When we told her about the love and support coming in from around the world she smiled and asked to see the posts on her facebook.

Thank you again for all of your kind words. Keep them coming because Nichelle is reading them.

Feel free to post your pictures with Nichelle and a story about when you met her.

Currently she is awake, eating, in good spirits and able to have full conversations. Her right side has shown minor signs or mobility loss but she is not showing any signs of paralyses. “

Dear Friends,

David P

I am breaking away from my usual light banter to discuss a very serious matter.  It all makes me so sick.

My old school friend Shawn has suffered an unspeakable tragedy, as her son, David, who was unarmed, was shot and killed by a firefighter on a highway in North Carolina. These are the details so far according to the petition:

David Pittarelli while unarmed was shot and killed on April 30th, 2015 by Ryan Cochran, a Kannapolis firefighter.  It is said that the parties did not know each other and that there was no reported indication of how the supposed argument started.  Nothing can make right that Ryan Cochran emptied his entire clip of his gun on an unarmed man.  There has been mention of witnesses but no one has come forward.  The shooter Ryan Cochran has not been charged and is on paid leave from his position as a firefighter.  We are asking that this be further investigated and that charges be filed as this is clearly not a case of self defense and there are many questions left unanswered with the information that has been given. We feel as though there is a conflict of interest in the investigation because firefighters and police officers that work together in the same county.  David Pittarelli deserves justice and with your help justice can be served.

Letter to
Concord North Carolina Police Department
Gary Hatley Concord Police Chief
Cabarrus County District Attorney’s Office
Further Investigation into the murder of David Pittarelli an unarmed father.

As my friend Shawn wrote:

I’m David’s Mom and my dear friend reminded me all I need to do is to speak my truth. I ask any witnesses to come forward and speak their truth for David, his son Kai and David’s family. I only had two conversations with the police which left me with many more questions than answers (I am still waiting for the Saturday 7pm update Detective Smith promised). He just kept repeating ‘I’m sorry I can’t answer that Ma’am, this is an on-going investigation’. He initially said, ‘There’s been an accident and David is dead’. I asked what kind of accident and was told ‘this is an active investigation and I cannot answer that’. I asked if it was a car accident and he told me No. I asked if Kristy was OK and he said she was home. I was desperately trying to piece together what went so tragically wrong last Thursday night and he gave me no relief – no compassion – no answers. I was alone in my home – on my knees begging him ….PLEASE – you cannot tell a Mother her son is dead and not tell her HOW – WHY – BY WHO. He finally told me it was a gunshot wound and they knew who did it but he was not in jail. He then gave me the Medical Examiners Phone Number and told me to call the Carolina Medical Center. I have learned most of the details surrounding David’s death from the News stories. When Detective Smith called me the second time – almost 12 hours later and relayed a few more details I told him I already knew all that – I heard it on the news. His response…’Don’t believe everything you hear on the news’. Well what are we to believe if the police won’t tell us? David’s gone – nothing will bring him home to his beautiful, innocent little boy or his family and many friends but Ryan Cochran needs to be held accountable.  Like David’s Facebook Banner says – All we need is Faith in the Rock. The truth will come out. Please sign this petition.

Thank you, and please keep my friend Shawn and especially her now fatherless grandchild in your prayers. Love, Therese

Celeste Yarnall Update — Let’s Make This Happen NOW!!

HAIR-FREE

Hey Kids,

As you may recall from my last update, I issued a challenge to all of you to raise $1,500 for Celeste’s cancer fund, and if we achieved this goal we’d get an Exclusive Interview with Celeste here.   Alas, so far I’ve only seen one donation (aside from my own) that has the words ‘trekerscrapbook’ on it, and suffice to say. we’re nowhere near the $1500 goal*.  But we can change this.

Did you know that between the “likes” on Facebook for this blog, and my subscribers, Trekker Scrapbook is 1,145 members strong? I challenge 100 of my followers to donate just $15.00 each TODAY —  Donating is easy- just be sure to add the words “Trekker Scrapbook” when you add a comment to your donation here.  (This is how I tally the donations).  If you can’t send $15.00, send $10 or even $5– every bit will help!  I know reaching this goal will make Celeste very happy, please contribute as soon as you can!

Cancer bills are almost as detrimental as cancer itself as you can see in this article.  Please help Celeste ease her burden.  Thank You, and wishing you all good health,  LLAP, Therese

(And enjoy the new comic, Celeste! ❤ ❤ ❤ )

*btw, the $1500 goal was my idea, not Celeste’s!

An Exciting CHALLENGE for all My Readers — Exclusive Interview with Celeste Yarnall

the interview

Hey Everybody!

I have some exciting news!  I am offering you a challenge!

As you all know, our friend and TOS Guest Star Celeste Yarnall has been battling a rare ovarian cancer.  Her cancer fund is almost to the half way mark of $25,000.  As I write this today, she is heading in for more chemo. ❤ Celeste needs our support and prayers, but the best thing we can do is send donations to her fund to help pay the medical bills her insurance won’t cover.  I came up with this idea recently, and when I messaged it to Celeste, she happily approved! 🙂  So here’s the challenge:

If  We, all the readers and subscribers to trekkerscrapbook, donate at TOTAL of $1,500 or more for the cancer fund, Celeste Yarnall will grant me (and all of you) an EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW for this site!  This would be a wonderful opportunity to hear what it was like to guest on so many classic 60’s series (Bonanza, My Three Sons, The Man From UNCLE, It Takes a Thief, The Wild Wild West,) and OF COURSE the classic Star Trek episode The AppleNot to mention what it was like to work with Elvis Presley!  And even better, If we raise the money, I will also select 3 questions  from your submissions to add to the interview!

HOW TO DONATE TO CELESTE’S FUND AS A TREKKERSCRAPBOOK MEMBER:   (It’s Easy!)

1) Go to Celeste’s Cancer Fund at  http://www.gofundme.com/kvo9xs

2) Click on the Donate Now button.

3) Enter the amount, your name, e-mail, etc.  but MOST IMPORTANTLY:

4) In the COMMENT section below, enter the words: “TrekkerScrapbook” (and a personal note if you like). This way I can keep track of how many members here have contributed and how much we have achieved.   I will post updates here regularly.

5) Hit ‘Continue’ button, finish payment.

Kids, I really want this interview, so let’s make this happen! I know any extra money made will help Celeste and Nazim greatly!   Hope to see those dollars add up soon!!  Please donate today; the sooner we can raise $1500, the sooner we can get the exclusive interview!  And start thinking of what questions you’d like to ask Celeste!

Thanks So Much, Therese Bohn  😀

For Mister Nimoy, Get Well Soon!

I’ll presume that no news is good news  🙂   Here’s one for you, Leonard! (I’ll post this on his twitter account- hope he sees it!)

get well leonard

Leonard’s Garden — and Yours.

Mister Nimoy tweeted this lovely, graceful post on Sunday:

I suspect he knows how greatly loved by the world he is, and I think this is his gentle way of reminding his admirers that nothing lasts forever. It may even be his ever-so-subtle way of saying Goodbye, but I don’t want to speculate too far into that 😦

As Pete Seeger  paraphrased Ecclesiastes 3:1 in ‘Turn, Turn, Turn

To everything, there is a season.  And a time to to every purpose under heaven.

Since his COPD diagnosis last year, he has kept to his privacy, but also became more insistent on urging others to quit smoking or never start.  He doesn’t want anyone to go through what he and millions of others have experienced with the disease.  It is another bloom in the garden of his amazing life.  He has achieved so much in his time so far, as an actor, director, photographer, pilot, playwright, poet, animal lover, preserver of Jewish tradition  and civic-minded citizen. Also a loving husband, father, Grandpa, and nurturing soul force of the little show that turned him into an icon.  In many ways, he is Mister Spock in his endless quest to learn and explore, and that is a lesson to us all:  Never stop exploring, learning, creating,  and discovering what you can do with your life.

Our life is short and precious.  I always say that any day that you can get out of bed is a blessed day. Don’t waste another moment on the constant distractions the world throws at us. Unplug from the web. Turn off your I-Phone. Talk to someone face to face. Hug a friend. Make something with your hands.  Plant your garden.  Just LIVE and LOVE, for all we have is RIGHT NOW.

We don’t know anything more at this time, but of course our thoughts and prayers are with Leonard, Susan, Julie, Adam, and all of his family.  We send our grateful thanks for sharing his beautiful garden of life. LLAP.

Thinking of Leonard Nimoy.

It’s astonishing how much one life can affect so many others. ❤

As I write this, the hero of my childhood, my major adolescent crush, a man I’ve never known personally but have loved for 40+ years is recovering from severe chest pains that happened last Thursday (February 19th).   Leonard Nimoy is one of the most creative, passionate, caring, and most marvelous humans of the last century, and I am so thankful for all the little areas of my life he has unknowingly touched with his charm, intelligence, and that beautiful laugh.

Mr. Nimoy is, of course, a very private man, and he deserves his privacy during this hard time.  But I truly hope that he is aware of and surrounded by all the love of his family, friends, and fans.  The fact that he is tweeting some of his poetry is his way of comforting us, and letting him know he’s still here.

The Beatles sang the words,  “…And in the End, the Love you take is equal to the love you make”.   Leonard is a true Renaissance man. He has given so much of his love and soul to the world, and I know when the time comes for him to fly from this mortal coil, his love will be returned a thousand-fold.  Let’s hope that’s still not for a while, for many hearts will break that day.  But what a blessing to know such a man, if only through his work.

Leonard wrote in his poem, You and I Have Learned, the following:

The miracle is this The more we share… The more we have.

Every year, Leonard has shared more and more of himself with his public; and he truly has more of that love back every day.

Leonard, as a tiny representative of your admirers all over the world, I must Thank You for all the beauty and joy you have given us with your life.  You have touched our hearts and souls deeply, and you are so greatly loved.  We send you all our love and strong healing thoughts.  Thank you for taking a quick moment to get your picture taken with this ol’ smitten Trekkie in 2013. Thank you for being one of the happy places in my heart.  Please get well soon! Love, Therese Bohn

Celeste Update — $18,000+ Almost Half Way!

celeste and friend

Celeste and her dear friend Laura Eisenhower at Chemo this past Saturday.

Hi All,

This Week’s Celeste Yarnall Update — the fund is now at $18,007, and every single subscriber and Facebook follower here contributed contributed only $30 each, we could reach the $50,000 goal TODAY!

The good news is that the total is ticking up,  but it still isn’t yet even at the halfway mark!  Please pass this on and contribute what you can.  Again the link:

http://www.gofundme.com/kvo9xs

Celeste had a rough weekend with a long 10 hour round of chemotherapy, and the side effects are awful,  but she is so thankful for all who are helping her through this incredible trek with love, support, prayers, and donations.  We’re going to make it, Celeste!   Love You!

Celeste Yarnall Update 2/16 — A Rough Week-But We All Can Help!

celeste threetHi Everybody,

It was a rough week for our Celeste — (Celeste Yarnall, The Apple, as Martha Landon)  On top of endless bills for her cancer treatment, she caught an awful cold/bronchitis bug that forced her to postpone chemo.  As she posted on her site:

Right after returning from the Conscious Life Expo I caught a terrible cold/bronchitis bug which is quite a set back as I have had to yet again postpone my chemo for this week and of course the bills just keep coming in which adds to the stress level but I know with all of your love and continued support I can overcome all the challenges that have come my way lately and rise like the phoenix again.

Yes, we can help Celeste!  At this writing, her GoFundMe cancer fund has reached $15,300, up $1,636 from last week.  It’s slowly creeping up, but there’s still a ways to go. So I did a bit of calculating:

TrekkerScrapbook  e-mail followers:            299                                             TrekkerScrapbook Facebook followers:     +787                                                                                                                              1086

That’s 1,086 Trekkers! (I’m honored, Thanks!) But just think– if every subscriber here gave just $32.00 each we could raise the full $50,000 TODAY!  Wouldn’t that be marvelous?  If you can’t afford $32, any amount will help!  Please contribute here today, and  please pass this along to everyone you know! Thanks so much!

Celeste, you will rise like a phoenix from this!  All our love, support, and prayers, Therese xo
