My Weekly Spock: Rare Head Shot Restored

This week I’m featuring a rare head shot of Leonard that I bought from Historic Images.  I’ve seen a similar version from this session where he has a full smile, but in this one the smile is a little less broad.  These head shots were often used for reference in AP articles.  Historic Images also send a newspaper clipping of this practice in action; in this case, a  celebrity horoscope from 1972.  ( btw, the image of Nimoy was taken in 1969!)

I show first the original, which was quite grubby as it was probably stored in the bottom of a filing case for reference.  It had a lot of yellowing and a bit filmy. (looks like someone scratched his name into the film!)  I’m including both here so you can see the restoration I applied.  Enjoy!

Here’s the little clipping attached to the back of the glossy; if features a celebrity horoscope suggesting that Aries Leonard will become enamored of physic phenomena this week! (hmm.. precursor to “In Search Of?”)

FArF: Spock N’ Roll! LPs that never were!

This week I’m featuring two delightful LP mash-ups featuring Leonard!  True, he didn’t actually record this discs, but the artists made them so convincing I wish they were real!

The first is by the brilliant Chris Shapan featuring a mash-up her is based on The Best of Jolson (Al Jolson of the first talking movie The Jazz Singer), and Shapan has morphed it beautifully into a believable Leonard Nimoy album; it almost makes me wish it really existed!  (Well, almost!) You can see more of  Shapan’s brilliant LP mash-ups here.

The second has turned Spock into the Vulcan Elvis!  I wish I knew who made tis, it’s perfect!  I wonder if Spock would have had this hair if Star Trek was made in the 50’s?  You’ll notice all the songs have Trek references — Another great mash up from an unknown artist.   Sharp-eyed (or should I say obsessive) fans will notice a small flaw in both of these — let me know if you see it!

But for now, these have inspired me to make another in my series of Beatle/Trek LP mashups, and you’ll see it soon (you know how I love to collage!) 11692614_860080514062602_3163098512961511766_n

Julie’s Tribute to her Dad, Please Help Fund her Nimoy COPD Documentary.

ayrqxqcb4zurqs7ju8paJulie Nimoy is currently working on this documentary COPD Highly Illogical, A Special Tribute to Leonard Nimoy, about her father’s COPD.   I wanted to post this here today to help her reach her crowdfunding goal. This will be wonderful when it’s finished.

I’ll never forget seeing Nimoy in 2013 in NYC — I recall he had a awful coughing fit. This was before his diagnosis of COPD was made public, poor man. But this documentary will help spread awareness of COPD, and help others to discover and help their condition. All contributions welcome. It’s the logical thing to do! LLAP.

My Weekly Spock: Love Comes in All Colors

In 1970, the National Urban Coalition created a public service message and a print ad with the words “Love Comes In All Colors”.   Leonard Nimoy participated in both of these messages, and if you look closely at the video, you can see him in  among the many celebrities and the cast of Hair singing Let the Sun Shine In (at :29 and at :36) He’s wearing a light plaid jacket and light green turtleneck.

In the early 70’s in a time of war, many truly believed we could change the world with love.  It’s an enduring message that is more profound now than ever. As we say farewell to 2015 and to Leonard Nimoy, I only wish that the spirit of love and brotherhood will still endure in our frenzied and terribly divisive culture.Wishing you love and peace in the new year.

My Weekly Spock: You Don’t Say! (or Ho, Ho, Ho??)

tumblr_nfijoyeYoY1r9wx7so1_500Leonard made a Christmas appearance on the game show You Don’t Say! in 1967 with host Tom Kennedy and June Lockhart (Lost in Space) He even wore a Santa hat, and June can’t stop playing with his pom-pom!  Oh how I envy the little girl on his lap!    I hope someday a video of this turns up!

My Weekly Spock: Gettin’ Cold!

It’s getting to be coat weather! Leonard always had a nice one, onscreen or off!

My Weekly Spock: This Was a Happy Man

Reviewing pictures of Leonard — This was a happy man.  I mean, sure, we all have problems and can’t be happy all the time, but so often you can see the genuine joy Leonard possessed in many candids and portraits.

Joy at a personal appearance

He clearly  loved his work, his family, his fans, and his life.  His smile was infectious and images of him laughing or smiling always bring me joy!

Wideo Wednesday: Bill Stole Leonard’s Bike!

Great video where the old pals recall the legend of how Bill stole Leonard’s bike on the Star Trek set.  It’s so lovely to see them laughing together – Bill’s a ham as usual, but Leonard is just delightful.  I wish I could have seen this when they toured together in the 1980’s.  Magical.   Enjoy.

My Weekly Spock- Young, Younger, Youngest, and just So Young!

Here’s some wonderful portraits of young Leonard I had never seen before — so young!  You can imagine the dreams of success in his young mind. These all appear to be taken in his early to mid 20’s, but in the bottom two he looks barely out of his teens!   Glad these were taken!
