May all the love in your life keep you warm and cozy today! And I love you all! Thanks for your patronage! ❤
I recently came across a game on Facebook called Cross-Stitch World, and you can create your own cross stitch designs with any photos from your computer or FB page — so naturally I made a couple of classic Mr. Spock moments…
What are YOU reading these days? Everyone needs a good read, and there’s so much out there. Especially on cold winter evenings…
I’m currently reading The Brave by Nicholas Evans. It’s a page turner that takes one through the life of Tommy Bedford, from boarding school to Hollywood. It begins with him saying goodbye to his mother, who is awaiting her execution on Death Row. I can’t wait to see how it turns out!
Please let me know what you’ve read lately, how you like it, and what you recommend! Thanks!
William Shatner’s latest book, Leonard: My 50 Year Friendship with a Remarkable Man, will be released on February 16th, just a week and a half shy of the one year anniversary of Nimoy’s death. Surely this is an excellent marketing move by Shatner’s publisher, as Nimoy’s fans will be thinking of him as the anniversary approaches.
Yet I am reluctant to buy this book. I’ve read a few excerpts on Amazon.com, and there is some good, thoughtful writing in it as Bill , with help from David Fisher, recalls his half century of friendship with his co-star. I have no doubt that Bill loved his friend, and that Leonard loved him. We can see how they related through their similar religious and cultural backgrounds, and they were there for each other through good and bad.
Sadly, the takeaway from early reviews is the revelation that Leonard Nimoy “froze him out” from their friendship in the last few months of his life; only relating to Shatner on business matters concerning Star Trek. If this is true, it’s a tragic development. Unfortunately, Nimoy is not here to tell his side of the story, and we, as well as Shatner, are left to wonder Why? It’s a biting frustration that Shatner will have to live with, and it is a blow to all of our us who imagined that these two men were as devoted to each other as their iconic characters were. I hope Shatner will find solace in memories of the good times of their friendship.
But this revelation, and the fact that this book comes out so relatively soon after Nimoy’s passing, makes one wonder about Shatner’s motives here. Is it a true tribute to his friend or a quick money grab to bring Bill and his storied ego back into the spotlight? I truly hope it’s the former.
I won’t be buying the book, but I’ll be content to wait for it to come to the local library. And I give Shatner credit for baring his soul and his heartbreak over the loss of his friend, as well as for still having so many irons in the fire at age 84. (He’s even reconsidering playing Kirk again!) I wish him good health and happiness. If all the proceeds from this book went to charity, I’d snap it up, but for now, I think I’ve sent enough cash his way. Good Luck, Bill.
This week I’m featuring a rare head shot of Leonard that I bought from Historic Images. I’ve seen a similar version from this session where he has a full smile, but in this one the smile is a little less broad. These head shots were often used for reference in AP articles. Historic Images also send a newspaper clipping of this practice in action; in this case, a celebrity horoscope from 1972. ( btw, the image of Nimoy was taken in 1969!)
I show first the original, which was quite grubby as it was probably stored in the bottom of a filing case for reference. It had a lot of yellowing and a bit filmy. (looks like someone scratched his name into the film!) I’m including both here so you can see the restoration I applied. Enjoy!

Original glossy: The full caption probably reads: (ADVANCE FOR WEEKEND EDITIONS OF OCT, 4. STORY…(NY5-Sept.30) –CHANGE IN STARS IN ‘MISSION IMPOSSIBLE’ Leonard Nimoy steps into role this television season of Martin Landau’s character in ‘Mission: Impossible”. (AP Wirephoto) …1969

This week I’m featuring two delightful LP mash-ups featuring Leonard! True, he didn’t actually record this discs, but the artists made them so convincing I wish they were real!
The first is by the brilliant Chris Shapan featuring a mash-up her is based on The Best of Jolson (Al Jolson of the first talking movie The Jazz Singer), and Shapan has morphed it beautifully into a believable Leonard Nimoy album; it almost makes me wish it really existed! (Well, almost!) You can see more of Shapan’s brilliant LP mash-ups here.
The second has turned Spock into the Vulcan Elvis! I wish I knew who made tis, it’s perfect! I wonder if Spock would have had this hair if Star Trek was made in the 50’s? You’ll notice all the songs have Trek references — Another great mash up from an unknown artist. Sharp-eyed (or should I say obsessive) fans will notice a small flaw in both of these — let me know if you see it!
But for now, these have inspired me to make another in my series of Beatle/Trek LP mashups, and you’ll see it soon (you know how I love to collage!)

Well here’s a milestone I never expected; this is my 1000th post! How’d that happen?
I started this blog way back on June 11, 2011, and I never imagined in my wildest dreams that I’d write this much about this ol’ TV show, or about Mr. Nimoy, or just anything else that popped into my head. And I definitely never imagined that anyone would read my little blog, let alone have a following! At the time I had minimal experience with blogs, writing posts for the wonderful Basket of Kisses site, but I just wanted to bring to life the Star Trek Universe from my corner of the world. It’s been a fun and wonderful learning experience. Often rewarding (like helping Celeste Yarnall with her cancer fund), and just knowing I can make some people smile) and sometimes frustrating (Is anyone actually reading my full posts are just looking at the picture in the promo on Facebook?) Sometimes I regret the name I gave this site too, as it tends gets confused with delightful (and very popular) My Star Trek Scrapbook.
And now a request: Nothing would make me happier than hearing from you in regards to what you like here and what you’d like to see? I always love reading comments from you and it inspires me to create more. So please let me know:
I will credit you when it’s published. 🙂
So here’s to the next 1000, and I’ll be back tomorrow with this week’s installment of Fan Art Fridays (aka FArF). I’m especially looking forward to writing posts this year in this special golden anniversary of the original series. I have many things in mind, new videos and categories that I hope you’ll enjoy! Thank you so much for your support through good and bad, and if you know anyone who likes or is just discovering The Original Series, let them know about my little site! Share the geekness! Thanks! Therese ❤

Since it was recently the heavenly birthday of DeForest Kelley I thought I’d find some fan art of our favorite doctor, and the artists didn’t disappoint! We have everything from animated gifs to embroidery to plushies! I especially love “Joanna” with it’s artist’s depiction of civillian McCoy with his daughter. I imagine that is exactly what she would have looked like! Enjoy!
Down to the last three! Yet, as episodes go, this was another of my lesser favorites, although I did like Lincoln and Surak, but couldn’t stand slimy Colonel Green!
Since this was basically a retread of ‘good vs. evil’, like Arena, it was hard to give this episode a fresh take. But then I got a brainstorm; 9 characters in a game, and given the TV game shows of my youth, The Hollywood Squares seemed a natural fit! I even made the font on the squares as close to the original as I could!
