When opportunity knocks, one answers — and Leonard even guested on comedienne Phyllis Diller’s The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show – This takes guts – but looks like he had a swell time! It only ran one season but I wonder if there’s video of this anywhere? I’ve seen some other pictures with Leonard on this show, but they’re buried in an old LNAF yearbook that I have to look up! I’ll show them eventually! Enjoy!
He does NOT look happy in this photograph, poor thing.
Maybe he’s thinking “Well, mortgage paid for this month!”
“Beam me up, Mr. Kyle. This planet patently lacks intelligent life.” xD
Flap like a goosey, flap
tweet like a sparrow, tweet
strut like a pigeon, strut
scratch like a chicken, scratch
[or something like that]
We’re doing the dance of LOVE — THE BIRDS!
Leonard was supposed to be Audubon and put on a burlesque french accent.
“Look! there’s a male red-headed yellow-breasted cuckoo! And over there is a female red-headed yellow-breasted cuckoo!”
“But the male red-headed yellow-breasted cuckoo and the female red-headed yellow-breasted cuckoo look just alike!”
“Of course! That’s what makes them cuckoo!”
…. well, as you said, it paid the bills and got him some exposure!
Do you know if this is on video anywhere? When did you see this?
I saw it only once — the night it aired! The only other thing I remember is that he sang “Dreams of the Everyday Housewife” and Phyllis was acting it out, and when he said “She looks in the mirror and stares at the wrinkles that weren’t there yesterday”, she looked in the mirror and it shattered. I believe he also did either “I’d Love Making Love To You” or “Please Don’t Try To Change My Mind”, but I’m not sure as he was also on Hollywood Palace about two weeks later and that may be where I remember those. I was a LN fanatic and would watch him in anything. I am sure that with the current craze for reissuing everything on DVD/Blu-Ray The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show (and maybe even Hollywood Palace) will get its turn!
Wow! Thanks so much- it must have made an impact if you remember it so well 50+ years later with only one viewing! The housewife number sounds so funny – That’s Phyllis for you, she was genius. I hope it will be reissued somewhere too, maybe it will turn up on YouTube too. Thanks for filling in the gaps!
I’m wondering what Leonard is thinking? He is not happy at all! … Leonard Nimoy to self: “This is not in my contract! Note to self get rid of my agent ASAP!”
