Last night I got to listening to my little mp3 player, and I thought I’d share a few of my varied tastes with, via YouTube. These’ll really show my age, but what the heck. The Tracks are as follows:
George Harrison: Rising Sun, Desi Arnaz: Tico Tico, The Association: Everything That Touches You, Count Basie: Blues for Ilene, and finally The End of the World, by the Broadway show Beyond The Fringe, (an LP my Dad used to play so often, I have it memorized word for word-but still funny after 50 years!) Enjoy!
I grew up with Beyond the Fringe. They have a golden place in my memory (though I don’t remember this bit!). I didn’t know they were known over there.
I had a feeling you might recognize BTF! My favorite is “So That’s The Way you Like it” – a brilliant Shakespeare satire — I’ll post that one next week. It’s nice to share Beyond… with my readers, so there will be more to come. By the way, this LP, which was an American release on Capital Records, is only a portion of the performances, but a lot of fun. There’s longer CD’s out there.
I remember a wonderful Shakespeare parody. If its the one I know our family would quote chunks of it! And the terrible sermons from Alan Bennett in the pulpit. All four such geniuses, two still going strong
“Oh Saucy Worchester!”
“And now I must away to bed, to sleep off all the nonsense I’ve just said.”
Ah! You’re very close — it’s I, most royally, shall not to bed, to sleep off all the nonsense I’ve just said!
And another line I like is:
“And to the field of battle go,’
and unto them our English sinew show!”
BTW, just recently I was reading Shakespeare’s Julius Ceasar” and the more I read the real thing, the more I realize how brilliant this satire is.
