Throwback Thursday – Hair You Go!

Hey Kids,

Sorry I haven’t posted recently, I’m a bit under the weather, but should be better soon.  Recently I came across a dealer (bulltznbracelets) on eBay who sells 8×10″s from the golden aged of TV and Movies.  They have a lot of Star Trek promotional and production stills too! These are all wig test shots from Journey to Babel.  Great to see the work and detail that went into these looks that you’d only see for a moment in the actual episode, it’s a veritable cat’s eye and wiglet fest!   If you peek in the background of these images, you can see these styles in actionhair test

FArFri: Mr. Spock by Silja Siirilä

I’m always happy when a reader sends me their fan art, and this week I got a beauty from artist Silja Siirilä of Finland!   Thanks so much Silja!  This a gorgeous painting of Spock, and I hope we’ll be seeing more from you in the future!  I bet Leonard would have loved this! I can’t imagine a better way to start the new year!  Thanks so much for sharing and keep up the good work!

My Weekly Spock: Love Comes in All Colors

In 1970, the National Urban Coalition created a public service message and a print ad with the words “Love Comes In All Colors”.   Leonard Nimoy participated in both of these messages, and if you look closely at the video, you can see him in  among the many celebrities and the cast of Hair singing Let the Sun Shine In (at :29 and at :36) He’s wearing a light plaid jacket and light green turtleneck.

In the early 70’s in a time of war, many truly believed we could change the world with love.  It’s an enduring message that is more profound now than ever. As we say farewell to 2015 and to Leonard Nimoy, I only wish that the spirit of love and brotherhood will still endure in our frenzied and terribly divisive culture.Wishing you love and peace in the new year.

“The Green Girl” – Wonderful Biography of Susan Oliver

Here’s a treat for you! This is a wonderful documentary about actress Susan Oliver who all Trek fans revere as Vina from The Cage.  But there was so much more about Susan as a actress, director, and aviatrix.  An incredible woman with crystal blue eyes and a no-nonsense attitude who finally gets her due here.  There are interviews with favorites here like David Hedison (Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea) and our own Celeste Yarnall.  It’s so good to see Susan’s legacy get some respect here, I only wish she lived to see it.   Enjoy this splendid documentary while it’s up on YouTube:

FArFri: Star Trek Christmas Cards by Nafftastic

It’s the most Trek-iful time of the year!  I looked up Trek and Christmas and came up with this:

First, these adorable Trek Christms Cards from nafftastic on Etsy.  I love that Uhura is a singing angel, although I think Scotty should have the red Rudolph nose and Spock should definitely be an Elf!

FArFri: Trek meets Futurama!

Last week I shared some funny Trek/Simpsons homages with you, today it’s the other great Groening creation, Futurama, which often featured inside Trek jokes and even occasional Trek stars (or at least their heads) as guests!

Futurama is the tale of Phillip J. Fry, a pizza delivery boy who falls into a cryogenic tube in 1999, only to wake up 300 years later, where he’ll still be a delivery boy for Planet Express. His co workers include Professor Hubert Farnsworth, one-eyed Leela, crustacean Dr. Zoidberg and Bender, the smart-ass robot.  If you’ve never seen Futurama, you can catch it on Netlfix, it’s a treat!

In “Why Must I Be a Crustacean in Love?” you get Futurama’s take on Amok Time — note the ‘national anthem’ at 2:19!  😉

Perhaps one Trek-iest episodes ever was Where No Fan Has Gone Before, where original Trek cast members and the crew of Planet Express find themselves prisoners of Melvar, the ultimate Trekkie, who insists on having a permanent Star Trek Convention, with the original series stars.
