My Daily Spock 2/10/12
So a guy walks into a bar one night in the 1970’s with their Polaroid and finds Leonard Nimoy! Leonard, ever the fashion dude, nailed the 70’s look without looking tacky!
Beige polyester jacket. Check.
Super big collar. Check.
Tease of chest hair. Check.
Megawatt smile. Check.
And please sign my Polaroid. Check.
Leonard was one of many celebrities photographed by Tim Boxer. Here’s a link to all of his signed Polaroids: (talk about blast from the past!)

What Superbowl?
As a Downton Abbey Girl, I’m with Uhura on this one!
I admit, I’m not a football person, nor is my hubby, so I’ll record the game and watch half-time later, and just drink in the glory of Downton Abbey! (But since I’m a New York State resident, I will say “Go Giants!”)

New Feature — My Daily Spock!
I was inspired by this site ( http://dailynimoyphoto.tumblr.com/ ) which is no longer adding pictures, so I thought I’d pick up the slack. This category will feature Mr. Nimoy as Spock as as well as many of his characters and other talents in his long career. To see every new picture, just click on My Daily Spock under categories. This one’s for all The Nimoyans. Enjoy!
Let’s start with a classic, shall we?
In this classic still from the original blooper reel, little Adam Nimoy greets his his father on the set with his very own Vulcan ears. Just like Daddy! Aww!
( I cleaned up this original still and enhanced the color)
The Joy of McCoy Part 1
Back in 1976, I had the pleasure of attending the ‘Star Trek BiCentennial-10 Convention in New York City. It was my first trip to NYC, and at the tender age of 15, it was an eye-opening, exciting time. The Convention was considered the premiere Trek event of that time, and all of the original cast were to show up (except Nimoy and Barret, who had other commitments-dang!). I was so excited to be going to an event where I’d find other fans like myself.
One highlight was when dear Deforest Kelley came out for an hour to talk with the fans and take questions. “Dee entered to the thunderous applause of at least 3-400 screaming Trekkies in the auditorium of the Statler Hilton. “Dee” was wonderful and homey, like the sweet, fun uncle you wanted to spent all day with. As I recall, he was dressed in black flared polyester slacks and a black polyester double-knit shirt with a loud orange and white design (Oh the Seventies!).
De told several stories about acting and Trek, and when asked his favorite episodes of the series, he mentioned two or three (I honestly can’t remember which ones) but then said “And, of course, The World is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky…(more thunderous applause) because I finally got the girl!”
But the memory I mostly take away from this was De’s story about how he and his wife lost their pet bird out of a window in NYC once. It was a heart-warming story and I wish to heck I could remember all the details, but it boiled down to the city dwellers down below managing to eventually get the bird back to De and his wife Carolyn. I’m trying to find a mention of it somewhere on the ‘net, but so far the only site that had it no longer exists 😦 . If anyone finds a link to it, please let me know!
Later we went to a scheduled autograph session with De and Grace Lee Whitney. Unfortunately, I got there too soon, and De hadn’t come in yet. Well, Grace was sweet and I still have her wonderful autograph, but I wish the convention management let me stay to meet De too!
De’s warmth and humor are greatly missed. A lot of people claim that De had ‘lost his movie star looks’ by the time he got into TV, but that’s just wrong. Sure, he wasn’t’ a Bill or a Leonard in magnetism, but he had a subtle romantic air that anyone could see if they just took the time to look! ( Oh, those baby blue eyes!) And the fact that he stayed married to his beloved Carolyn for over 40+ years is the most romantic thing of all! De, we’ll never forget you!
Another Trek Dream
January 10, 2012
I awoke this morning from a funny Trek dream. It takes place in the new Trek Movie – but with the original actors as they were in the 60’s.
At one point, Spock has to seduce a crew member to get info regarding an impending invasion. I marvel at the scene, for we only see the scene from over his lover’s uniformed shoulder; he lets his eyes do all the flirting. (ah, those Nimoy eyes) She has long black hair – This was probably a reference to a book I read many years ago called Spock, Messiah! (Oh how my Mom hated the sacrilegious title of that book! )
Mr Leslie yells at Spock –Since when can you Pon Farr at will?
Spock replies “It is always there, we can control it, but it makes you feel really weird! (Makes goofy face)

There are more crew on the Enterprise, mostly other characters from 60s TV shows! (You see the Addams Family walking the corridor!
Khan is among the villains the Enterprise has to face – we see him lying in sickbay in his gold net overalls.
At some point there is a big battle and of course the Enterprise wins. I try to rewind it on my DVR to show it to my sister, but of course it doesn’t work.
*******************
I suspect this silly dream came about because I read about the upcoming Trek 2 movie and disappointment that the villain might be Khan. I say, bring on the new movie, I can’t wait to see it! Yet after 45 years, why do I still have the occasional Trek dream? Well, they say the things you love are always in your heart, so I’ll just leave it to that. And maybe it’s because he’s 80 now, and like someone I’ve known for so long, I know that sooner or later Nimoy will pass on to eternity, and I’d just like to know if he’s ever read this blog. Hey Leonard, you there?
